New Year's day likely to be colder

New Delhi: Delhiites are likely to wake up to a colder morning on the first day of the New Year when the minimum temperature is predicted to hover around 6 degree Celsius, weather officials said Wednesday.

"The minimum temperature is expected to be around 6 degrees Celsius tomorrow (Wednesday) and the maximum will be around 17 degrees Celsius," a meteorological department official said.

In comparison, the mercury had plummeted to 3 degrees Celsius Jan 1, 2008.

"There was no fog today. But mist is expected tomorrow morning," the official added.

On Wednesday, for the third consecutive day, the capital woke up to a cold morning. The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.2 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature was 16 degrees Celsius.

The coldest day of this winter season so far has been Dec 26 with the minimum temperature dipping to 6.4 degrees Celsius.
