Congress indiscipline led to loss in MP
Thursday, January 01, 2009 11:48 [IST]

New Delhi: The Congress would have come to power in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh had it been more united and disciplined, says party president Sonia Gandhi while pointing out the weaknesses that led to the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) win in the two states.

“In Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh we were not able to capitalise on the discontent among the people in these states against BJP. Had we been more united and had we been more disciplined, we would, I am sure, have come back to power,” Gandhi said in a message given in the Congress magazine Sandesh.

She also remembered the heroism, courage and sacrifice of the security personnel, hospital workers and fire workers during the Mumbai terror attack.

“The dark and tragic hours when Mumbai was under siege were illuminated by countless acts of heroism, courage, humanity and sacrifice from our security forces, firemen, hospital workers, hotel staff and ordinary citizens. They are shining symbols of the indomitable spirit of India.”

Gandhi also lauded the people of India for rejecting attempts to extract political mileage from the Mumbai terror attack.

For the results of the recently concluded assembly elections, she said: “In the recent results in the assembly elections we have retained power in Delhi. In Rajasthan, our party colleagues ran an aggressive campaign to expose the corruption, arrogance and high handedness of the Bharatiya Janata Party and we have been successful in coming back to power, In Mizoram too, people have voted for change and we have come back to power after a gap of 10 years.”
