Security forces battle militants in Poonch
Friday, January 02, 2009 11:30 [IST]

Poonch (J-K): Security forces were engaged in a fierce encounter for the second day today to flush out around six militants trapped in Bhati Dhar forests in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The gunfight started last evening after army troops and a special operation group of the state police jointly launched a search operation in Bhati Dhar forests area following inputs of militants presence in a hideout there, defence sources said.

A large number of army troops have been rushed to the area which has been cordoned off to prevent escape of the militants.

Two army personnel, including a JCO, were presumed killed in the encounter, the sources said, adding that the body of the JCO is yet to be recovered.

There were around five to six militants trapped in the hideout when the last reports came in, the sources said.
