Friday, January 02, 2009 14:14 [IST]

Jammu: Four militants were killed in a gunbattle with soldiers in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir Friday, an army official said.

“The army has shot dead four militants in the operation in Pati Tar's mountainous forest area in Mendhar. Identification of the militants is still to be carried out and the operation is still on,” Army spokesperson Col. D.K. Kachari told reporters.

On Thursday, two Indian Army soldiers were killed in the gunbattle that erupted in the evening after the army laid a cordon around Pati Tar on information that a group of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists was hiding there, defence ministry sources said.
