Three Maoists held in Bihar
Friday, January 02, 2009 18:04 [IST]

Begusarai: Three naxalites, including a self-styled area commander of the CPI (Maoist) wanted in several cases, have been arrested following an encounter in Bihar's Begusarai district.

IG (Operations) S K Bhardwaj told PTI that on a tip off police raided the house of Upendra Choudhary, the village head of Dhankaul last night, but the Maiosts fired at the police.

Police returned fire and arrested area commander Radhey Sah alias Shyam Sahni and detained Hare Krishna Mahto and Surendra Paswan. The house owner was also picked up for harbouring the insurgents.

Sah was wanted for an incident of dynamite blasting on the house of CPI(M) leader Dinesh Singh, murder of one Rampukar Chaurasia and forceful acquisition of land of a relative of Excise minister Jamshed Ashraf.

A pistol and six rounds of cartridges were found, Bhardwaj said.
