Keylong (HP): As many as 26 people, including a severely ill woman, were ferried by chopper today in the snow-bound areas of Lahual and Spiti district, official sources said.

On the second day of the annual helicopter service meant to ferry the needy people to different parts of the state, three sorties were made from Bhuntar airport to helipad at Tundi, about 10 km from district headquarter of Keylong, Deputy Commissioner C Paul Rasu told PTI.

A total of 26 passengers, 13 people from each side, were ferried during the day, he said.

Those transported today included a woman of Kardang village who was profusely bleeding since last night, official sources said.

According to the flight schedule, the helicopter will go to Udaipur in the same district tomorrow to ferry needy people. On January 4 and 5 the helicopter will go to Kellar in Pangi valley of Chamba district.

The helicopter service is made available every year in the snowbound areas of Lahual and Spiti also known as cold desert where roads are closed due to heavy snowfall.
