Bhopal: A group of NRI students under the tenth `Know India campaign paid a visit to Madhya Pradesh Assembly to understand the functioning of the House.
The campaign was launched by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs to spread awareness about Indian culture, art, education, industry, historical sites, natural spots and sports among NRI students living.
This year the Ministry has entrusted the responsibility of conducting the campaign to Madhya Pradesh for the first time. Sports and Youth Welfare department is conducting the campaign on behalf of the state, official sources said today.
A total of 34 students from Australia, Suriname, Fiji, Malaysia, America, Britain, Sweden and Trinidad arrived here as part of the tour.
Assembly's Principal Secretary A K Payasi briefed the guest-students about the functioning of the parliamentary process. Later, they had a look at the galleries, main hall and library of the Assembly, the sources said.
They were also explained about the unique architecture of the Assembly building which is perched on a hill adjoining the state secretariat.
The students also met Governor Balram Jakhar.
Welcoming the students, Jakhar described them as India's cultural ambassador. He asked them to promote Indian culture and value system in their respective countries. Source : PTI
