Sunday, January 04, 2009 07:42 [IST]
Puducherry: Railway Ministry has evolved an integrated security system through a master plan to give training to the railway protection force personnel in handling latest gadgets to ensure safety of railway passengers, Union Minister of State for Railways R Velu said.

Participating in the flagging off ceremony of Garib Rath weekly express train between Puducherry and Yesvantpur by Puducherry Chief Minister V Vaithilingam here earlier today, Velu said the need for the security system was felt in the wake of the recent terror attack in Mumbai.

Of the 9,000 railway protection force personnel, 2,000 personnel were categorised as special force personnel and they would be given training.

A total of 144 railway stations across the country had been identified as highly vulnerable and installation of closed circuit television sets and other gadgets would form part of the integrated security system.

As much as Rs 600 crore had been estimated for the plan, he said.
