Dushanbe: Tajikistan has given the green light for humanitarian assistance for Afghanistan to pass through this impoverished central Asian nation, the Tajik presidency's press service has said.
The presidents of Afghanistan and Tajikistan reached an agreement on the transit of "humanitarian shipments including food, fuel and building material for Afghanistan" on Thursday in a telephone conversation, it said.
The two leaders also discussed joint cooperation in security and drug fighting and agreed to exchange official visits in a bid to expand bilateral cooperation.
Tajikistan shares a 1,340-km border with Afghanistan, the world's leading producer of opium which is exported primarily to Russia and European countries.
