New Delhi:Delhiites faced more attacks from robbers and others outside their homes rather than inside.
According to the crime data for the year 2008,a whopping 66 per cent of the 498 robbery cases took place on the capital s streets, while 33 per cent of the 1,852 cases of causing hurt were committed on roads.
A senior police official said there was nothing unusual in the data as the trend is similar to that of any other states in the country.
"Most of the cases of snatching, dacoity and robbery or physical attacks take place on streets. Don t try to depict that the capital s roads are unsafe," the official said.
In hurt cases, the data said, another 24 per cent of them occurred in houses.
Physical force was used in 21 per cent cases while hockey stick were used in 14 per cent incidents followed by knife in 12 per cent.
Neighbours were involved in 34 per cent of the cases followed by relatives in 12 per cent. Interestingly, in 12 per cent of the cases, friends were involved. However, in 20 per cent cases accused and victims were unknown.
The motive in these cases were small petty issues, sudden provocation, retaliation for abuse or taunting remarks and money and property dispute, the official said.
Most of the robbery cases -- 66 per cent -- took place on roads while 11 per cent took place in houses, six per cent in commercial establishments and five per cent each in running buses and rickshaws or taxis. Source : PTI
