Sri Lankan Navy thrash and injure Indian fishermen
Sunday, January 04, 2009 16:35 [IST]
Rameshwaram: More than 20 fishermen from this island and Mandapam were injured and their boats damaged when the Sri Lankan Navy allegedly assaulted them after intercepting their vessels near Mullaitivu, official sources said here today. The fishermen, in a complaint to the Fisheries Department here, alleged that the Navy men last night threw their fishing nets and ice boxes into the sea warning them not to venture into Sri Lankan territory in view of the ongoing war in Jaffna between the army and LTTE.
