Relatives demand compensation from employer

Erode: The relatives of a driver, who alleged committed suicide, today conducted a demonstration seeking compensation from him employer. Police said that Channiyan(60) was working as driver in a farm in Sathyamangalam taluk. His employer lodged a complaint with the police on December 30 that the driver was stealing the diesel and petrol from his vehicles.

Following this, police asked Channiyan to appear before the Sub Inspector yesterday.

However, out of fear Channaiyan committed suicide by consuming poison yesterday.

The relatives of the driver organised a demonstration after keeping the body inside the farm demanding compensation from the farm owner. Police reached the spot and pacified the crowd. The body was later buried, police said.
