Sonepat: One labourer was killed and 11 others were injurd when they were buried alive under the debris while working in an under construction building of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Sector 15 here last night.
The mishap occured around 10 p.m. When the lantern of the building collapsed all of a sudden on the labourers who were engaged inthe work of the construction.
On hearing the sound of hue and cry raised by the labourers, a large number of people assembled at the site and they started the work for removing the debris and the trapped labourers were taken out.
One of them was taken out as dead, police said.
Five fire tenders were pressed into service to render help in removing the debris
According to police sources, the deceased was identified as Mulla.
All the injured persons were taken to the local civil hospital around midnight for treatment. The condition of one of them was stated to be serious.
The police have registered a case and further investigations were still in progress.
Many labourers alleged that they were forced to work during the night and the contractor had failed to make proper lighting arrangements.
Some others demanded compensation for the family of the deceased and other injured perons. Source : PTI
