Imphal: The Special Security Group (SSG), commando unit of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), would take charge of security of Manipur Chief Minister O. Ibobi Singh from next month, official sources said today.
Sources said the decision to replace the present Manipur Rifles and CRPF personnel was taken recently following threat to Singh by some militant groups and recent bomb attack on the chief minister's residential complex by a militant outfit.
They said the state government had earlier proposed to the Centre to provide SSG for both Chief Minister and Governor Gurbachan Jagat.
Sources said the Centre was also likely to decide to deploy SSG for the Governor in view of the recent explosion of a grenade inside Raj Bhavan complex by a militant outfit.
Sources said the Directorate of Information and Public Relations department, located adjacent to Chief Minister's office, would also be shifted to Manipur State Road Transport Corporation complex and be made a part of Chief Minister's official complex.
To step up security measures, sources said offices of State Central library, State Social Welfare Advisory Board and Treasury --all located near Raj Bhavan complex-- would also be shifted to some other areas very soon.
They said the government was also considering strengthening of security measures in and around the Chief Minister's office complex and Raj Bhavan area. Source : PTI
