Dehra Dun: Uttarakhand government has withdrawn a case of alleged forgery against a cabinet minister, Diwakar Bhatt, pending before a court in Haridwar for the past 17 years.
Chief Judicial Magistrate had recently allowed a petition moved by the government to withdraw a case against Food and Civil Supplies Minister Bhatt, pertaining to the alleged use of fraudulent papers to get lease of public land in Haridwar, official sources said here today.
The case, registered against Bhatt in 1991,pertains to the use of fraudulent papers to lease a land belonging to the Haridwar Municipal Council, which he allegedly used to run an organisation called Tarun Himalaya.
In an inquiry, the documents allegedly submitted by Bhatt relating to the lease agreement between the organisation and the then UP government were found to be fake.
The government later registered a case against Bhatt and two others which was was pending in a local court for the past 17 years.
After the formation of Uttarakhand, the state government decided to take back the case against Bhatt, but the CJM court rejected its appeal.
Recently, the government moved a fresh application before the court seeking permission to withdraw the case against all the accused in the public interest.
After a fresh hearing, the court had permitted the government to withdraw the case.
Expressing happiness, Bhatt claimed it was a political motivated case.
