Washington: Virginia Governor Tim Kaine is tipped to be appointed as the next chairman of the Democratic National Committee by US President-elect Barack Obama.
Kaine will succeed Howard Dean as the party chairman at a high-level party meeting here later this month, according to media reports.
The fifty-year old was elected as Virginia governor in 2005, but the state constitution does not allow him to seek re-election when his term expires at the end of this year.
He would serve as party president during his last year as governor, with the day-to-day affairs being looked into by another official, the papers said.
Kaine will work full time as DNC chief after his term as Virginia Governor gets over in 2009.
A Harvard Law School graduate, Kaine, came into prominence after Obama considered him as a top contender for his running mate. Source : PTI
