Agartala: Two hardcore insurgents of the outlawed All Tripura Tiger Force, carrying cash rewards on their heads, who surrendered in West Tripura after fleeing a base camp in Bangladesh, have said Insurgency does not pay.
Michael Debbarma, a self styled captain of the outfit and Royal Debbarma, a lieutenant carrying a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 2 lakh on their heads respectively, said they had left insurgency as pay was meager and food scarce in the camps in Bangladesh's Sylhet district, the police said today. Michael said he could not admit his daughter to a school in Sylhet because he did not have the money. He also claimed that ATTF supremo Ranjit Debbarma was living a lavish life, frequently travelled abroad and his daughter was studying in a posh English medium school in Dhaka.
The children of the two militants who were born in Bangladesh camps and wives also surrendered to the sub-divisional police officer, Apan Jamatiya, at Jirania in West Tripura district yesterday. The insurgents were wanted in a case of attacking security forces and killing villagers in West Tripura district.
