Three killed in Jharkhand mine accident
Tuesday, January 06, 2009 12:56 [IST]

Ranchi: Three men have been killed inside a mine of Bharat Coking Coal Ltd (BCCL) in Jharkhand, an official said Tuesday.

"Three employees had gone to read the temperature and gas of underground mine of Lodana colliery of BCCL Monday afternoon. Their dead bodies were recovered Monday night," BCCL Public Relation Officer (PRO) K.B. Srivastav told IANS on phone.

A rescue operation was started by BCCL seven hours after the three employees were trapped in the mine. BCCL workers Monday night expressed anger over the delay in the rescue operation, said an official of the company requesting anonymity.

He said poisonous methane and carbon monoxide gas emitting from the colliery seems to have caused the deaths. The poisonous gas had claimed 55 lives in a mine of BCCL in September 2007.

The Lodana colliery is situated in Dhanbad district, around 270 km from here.
