Tuesday, January 06, 2009 19:14 [IST]
New Delhi: Jharkhand has formed a special force - Jharkhand Jaguar - on the lines of Greyhounds of Andhra Pradesh to tackle naxalism in the tribal state and established a Jungle Warfare school to give intensive training to security forces.

Addressing the meeting of Chief Ministers on Internal Security here, Chief Minister Shibu Soren said, "The state has formed a special force Jharkhand Jaguar on the lines of Greyhounds. Twenty squads of Jharkhand Jaguar are operating for checking extremism."

As it is imperative to give the security forces intensive training to counter terrorism and naxalism, the government has also established a Jungle Warfare school, he added.

"We have also prepared an elaborate action plan for the security of big industrial houses, sensitive public undertakings, religious places and buildings and will be soon approaching the Central government for modern equipment and training the security forces earmarked for it," he added.

"The state has prepared two battalions of former servicemen to face terrorists effectively and deployed them after training," he said.

An Analysis Wing has also been formed in the Special Branch headquarters for collecting, collating, analysing and transmitting intelligence, Soren said.
The chief minister said the state has made an elaborate plan of action to end the menace of Mafiosi and criminal gangs.

The state has made good progress in forensic science and the government has made mobile forensic labs in 18 districts, which have the facility for crime investigation and evidence gathering, he said.
