Mumbai police to quiz suspected LeT activist
Tuesday, January 06, 2009 20:07 [IST]

Lucknow: Mumbai Police Tuesday got custody of a suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (leT) activist who was arrested by the Uttar Pradesh police for an attack on a paramilitary camp in Rampur town, police said.

The suspect, identified as Imran, was to be taken to Mumbai for questioning about the Nov 26 terror attacks there, the police said.

A judicial magistrate held the court on the premises of Lucknow district jail, where Imran was lodged and granted an open transit remand to Mumbai Police for presenting him before a court in that metropolis, the police added.

Imran was arrested from here in February and Mumbai road maps with important buildings marked on them were recovered from him. He has been charged with orchestrating a terror attack on a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in Rampur, some 300 km from here, in the early hours of Jan 1, 2008.

Seven troopers and a civilian were killed in the attack.

The police suspect Imran's involvement also in the Mumbai carnage in which more than 170 people were killed.
