Shah to be accorded state funeral

Srinagar: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Ghulam Mohammad Shah, who passed away last evening, would be accorded state funeral here today.

His body has been taken to polo ground in the heart of the city where prayers would be offered before burial.

The funeral will take place at his ancestral graveyard at Chattabal around 3 PM, official sources said.

Shah (88) passed away at the Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences here following a cardic arrest around 5.40 PM yesterday.

As a mark of respect to the departed leader, a three-day state mourning began yesterday during which national and state flags shall fly at half mast. There shall be no official entertainment till January 8. S

All government offices and educational institutions are closed in the state today.

Shah, son-in-law of former Chief Minister of the State, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, brother-in-law of Farooq Abdullah and uncle of the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, is survived by his wife, Khalida, two sons and a daughter.
