Civilian killed in Srinagar's cantonment area
Wednesday, January 07, 2009 12:45 [IST]

Srinagar: A civilian "moving suspiciously" was shot dead by army guards a short distance from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's residence here, police said.

The incident took place late Tuesday in Srinagar's cantonment area, some distance from Abdullah's Gupkar Road residence.

"Abdul Rashid Raina was moving suspiciously inside the cantonment area when he was asked to stop. However, he ran and was killed by the guards. His body has been sent for autopsy," a police officer said.

The army's 15 Corps is located inside the cantonment, a heavily guarded installation in this summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
