Jalandhar: A top Naxal wanted in at least 25 cases including murder and attack on police personnel in Jharkhand has been arrested in Phillaur area of Punjab, police said today.
Jai Parkash Dubey, a senior activist of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) hailing from Hazaribad district of Jharkhand, was arrested in Mehsampur village on Monday and remanded to police custody, Pawan Kumar Rai, Senior Superintendent of Police told reporters.
Dubey, who was living under a false name in Phillaur area for the last one and half year, had been tasked with reviving the front organisation of Maoists in Punjab, he said. During investigation it was found that Dubey was wanted in as many as 25 cases including murder, attack on police personnel and blowing up of official vehicles in Jharkhand, the SSP said. Some CDs and literature in Punjabi regarding the outfit were recovered from his possession. Dubey was part of a Central Committee formed by the outfit to revive its activities in northern states. The committee's head Pramod Mishra was arrested last year.
Raids were being conducted to identify and nab other accomplices of the accused in the state, the SSP added.
