End pro-military, security tie-up with Israel
Saturday, January 10, 2009 00:00 [IST]

Kochi: CPI(M) today demanded that India end the pro-military and security collaboration with Israel immediately.

"We are buying tens and thousands of crores defence equipment from Israel and Israel is using this money to build up a force to attack the Palestinians and all other Arab countries whose land they have occupied," he told a rally of CPI(M) workers here.

"For India to have a non-aligned and independent foreign policy, it was essential that this sort of military and security collaboration with Israel should end," he claimed.

Karat said Indian Union Muslim League, a constituent of the UPA Government, had adopted a very good resolution asking the government to break diplomatic relations with Israel. "We would like it to be implemented."

"The IUML must ask Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahmed, the party's representative in the UPA Government, to initiate the breaking of the diplomatic relations with Israel and if the government did not agree, it should leave the government and withdraw support," he said.

"We express our full solidarity with the People of Palestine, not now but from the days of our Independent struggle from the time of Mahatma Gandhi. We have expressed our full support to the Palestinians when they were displaced from their homelands. It is a great shame that Congress- led governemnt has given up this stand."

Because of the strategic alliance with the United states and Israel, the Manmohan Singh Government had not done anything apart from issuing a few statements, he charged.
