Obama's mother-in-law to accompany family
Saturday, January 10, 2009 07:31 [IST]
Chicago: US President-elect Barack Obama's mother-in-law will be accompanying the future first family into the White House once he assumes office on January 20.

Seventy-one year old mother of Michelle Obama, Marian Robinson will be moving temporarily to the people's house at least for now, a report in ABC News said.

"Mrs Robinson will be coming with the family to help the girls get acclimated and she will determine in the coming months whether or not she wants to stay in DC permanently," spokeswoman for the future first lady, Katie McCormick Lelyveld, was quoted as saying by the report.

Malia and Sasha's grandmother is already in Washington DC mainly to help settle the kids and provide support for the family during its transition, as she was doing in Chicago.

Robinson has been taking care of the Obama girls during their parents campaign tours across the country.

ABC News further reported that in an interview with 60 Minutes shortly after the election, Obama had said he is all for his mother-in-law moving in with them permanently.

"But, she sure can if she wants. I think it is fair to say that Marian Robinson is one of the unsung heroes of this campaign. We could not have done it without her. Cause she retired, looked after the girls, gave Michelle confidence that somebody was going to be there when Michelle was on the road."

Robinson has lived in the same house on the South Side of Chicago for 50 years, the same house that Michelle grew up in.

Apart from spending time with her granddaughters, Robinson is found of Yoga and going on long walks.
