Four blasts rock Lahore, seven injured
Saturday, January 10, 2009 08:15 [IST]

Islamabad: At least seven people were injured as four bombs went off in quick succession in Lahore's busy Mall Road area Friday evening, police and witnesses said.

A witness said the bombs were planted in a less than kilometre area on the Mall Road and went off one after another within five minutes. The injured were rushed to hospital.

He said after the first blast people came out of the shops and buildings. Soon after another bomb went off a few yards from the first one, followed by two other blasts.

A police officer from Lahore said two of the four bombs were planted on motorbikes.

The police said the bombs were of low intensity.

The police condoned off the area and arrested a suspect from the scene of the blasts.

The blasts took place when US vice-president-elect Joe Biden is visiting Pakistan for talks with the Pakistani leadership on growing terrorism in the region. His talks focused on the war on terrorism and the investigations into the Mumbai blasts.

No group had claimed responsibility for the blasts.
