Five wounded in Chicago high school shootout
Saturday, January 10, 2009 17:33 [IST]

Washington: Five people were shot outside a Chicago high school as spectators left a crowded high school basketball game. Police said that the shooting outside a Chicago high school on Friday might be gang-related.

The shooting occurred outside Dunbar High School on Chicago's South Side. "It appears to be gang-related," Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis said at a news conference, adding that more than 200 officers were investigating the incident.

"We anticipate solving this thing in the not too distant future," Weis said.

Chicago Fire Department spokeswoman Eve Rodriguez said the five people -- all males -- were wounded by gunfire and taken to area hospitals. Two were in serious condition, one was in critical condition and two were in stable condition, she said. Rodriguez also said a female victim was injured in a fall and was listed in good condition at a hospital.

The high school has about 1,600 students and is the alma mater of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson.
