Hyderabad: BJP Andhra Pradesh unit today said the Centre should finalise creation of a separate Telangana state before the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections.
A delegation led by state BJP chief Bandaru Dattatreya submitted a memorandum to President Pratibha Patil in this regard.
The memorandum, which contained signatures of people of Telangana demanding a statehood for the region, said before Independence and merger of the area with the country several citizens under the erstwhile Nizam had given up their lives for making a demand for the merger.
The Centre should respect the demands of such people and the President should use her office to instruct the UPA government to expedite the process of creation of Telangana, it said.
The members of the delegation which met Patil include Ch Vidyasagar Rao, former Union Minister and Chairman, Telangana Udyama Committee among other party leaders.
