Chandigarh: After two days of temporary respite from cold wave conditions, the chill and fog was back today at most places in Punjab and Haryana.

Amritsar reeled under severe cold as the minimum dropped to 2.9 degrees celsius, the Meteorological Department said here.

Patiala also braved a cold night at 5.2 C, two below normal. The low at Ludhiana settled at 6.6 C.

In Haryana, the minimum temperatures dropped today by few notches in comparison with the slight increase witnessed yesterday. Narnaul was the coldest place registering a low of 5 C. The low at Hisar was recorded at 7.2 C while Rohtak registered a low of 6.7 C.

Karnal also braved the chill at 6 C, down one degree while the low at Ambala settled at 5.7 C, also a degree below normal.

The night temperature at Chandigarh, however, increased by a degree since yesterday to settle at 8.4 C.

A thick blanket of fog here reduced visibility to just 150 m in the morning though a bright sun came out during afternoon.

Visibility was reduced to zero early this morning at other places in the region including Adampur, Bathinda in Punjab and Sirsa in Haryana. At Ambala, Halwara and Pathankot the visibility was 500 m, the Met said.
