Bangalore: Taking a wine-break may soon become the norm of the day with some leading wineries in Karnataka working on ambitious plans to roll out wine taverns in Bangalore and other tourist destinations in the state.
If the plans get through, wine lovers in Karnataka would be able to enjoy some quality wines at specially designed taverns while catching a break from shopping or work. "The taverns to be set up, once the state government clears certain ambiguity on the wine policy and clears licenses, are aimed at introducing a wine culture in the city and state," said K S N Raju, Managing Director, Nandi Valley Winery.
The company has applied for 10 licenses and hopes to have the wine taverns operational this year, starting with 10 in Bangalore and later at Hampi, Mangalore, Mysore and other tourist destinations.
The taverns are aimed at getting people to taste wine and also hope to lure the beer guzzlers to look at wine as an option, said Arun C Bapu, Head of Corporate Communication, Khoday India, who have applied for a license in Bangalore and plan to apply for another four.
The wine tavern being planned by the NVW would offer the quaint wooden look. The oak barrels, wooden kegs, the neatly arranged wine glasses, bunch of purple hued grapes with green creepers gliding along, would complete the look of the tavern, beckoning many to step in.
