Police officer escapes grenade attack in J-K
Sunday, January 11, 2009 14:23 [IST]

Srinagar: A police officer escaped a grenade attack by militants at Hyderpora on the Srinagar-Airport road, official sources said today.

Militants hurled a grenade towards the vehicle of Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadder, Tariq Ahmad, at Hyderpora near here last night, the sources said.

The grenade missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside without causing any harm, the sources said, adding the police officer was patrolling the area in his official vehicle when the ultras carried out the attack.

Police assisted by paramilitary forces immediately cordoned off the area and conducted a search operation but no one was arrested as the militants fled the scene taking advantage of darkness and the panic that followed the blast, the sources said.
