Varun Gandhi's car injures man in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: A 55-year-old man was injured Sunday in an accident in Uttar Pradesh involving the chauffeur-driven car of Varun Gandhi, son of Bharatiya Janata Party MP and former union minister Maneka Gandhi, the police said.

Gandhi was in his Scorpio SUV and was going to participate in a rally in Pilibhit when the accident took place in Khamariyapatti locality, some 250-km from Lucknow, additional superintendent of police K. Saurabh told IANS on phone.

Injured Fauja Singh received serious head injuries and is undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit at the Sharda hospital here, Saurabh added.

Gandhi's driver was driving the car at the time of the accident.

No FIR has been registered, as the police said Singh's family was yet to approach them with any complaint.

Asked whether Gandhi's vehicle was speeding, Saurabh said: "It is a matter of inquiry."

According to the police, it were Gandhi and his driver who got the injured admitted to the hospital.
