Jewellery trader gunned down in Munger

Munger: A jewellery trader, who was on way to Lakhisarai for solemnising his daughter's engagement, was today shot dead by unidentified criminals near Deen Dayal Chowk here in Bihar's Munger district today, police said.

The incident occurred when the trader, Rajendra Verma, 55, was going to Jamalpur railway station to board a train for Lakhisarai for his daughter's engagement. Criminals intercepted him near Deen Dayal Chowk and started looting his belongings.

Verma was shot dead by the criminals when he opposed the loot, the police said.

In protest against the killing, traders closed their shops. The agitated people also pelted stones at the police.

Superintendent of Police M Sunil Nayak said that raids were on to arrest the criminals.
