Two killed in gas explosion in Kuwait
Monday, January 12, 2009 15:29 [IST]

Kuwait City: Two people were killed and several wounded, some seriously, in a massive gas blast at a Shiite Muslim worship place in central Kuwait, a fire department official said today.

Yussef al-Ansari told the official KUNA news agency that the dead men are believed to be Asians and their bodies were recovered from under the debris of the building. He said the explosion, which took place in the kitchen of a Husseiniya, a form of mosque, in Al-Ahmadi, south of Kuwait City last evening, was caused by a leak in the gas pipes. Several other people were injured in the incident. Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber Khaled al-Sabah inspected the scene last evening and said the explosion was not a terrorist act.
