Jammu: Omar Abdulla lived up to his own utterance this is a new year and a new beginning - in the first week on chief minister's chair by laying his credentials clear.
The rise of 38-year-old third generation leader from the state's first family had generated a lot of hope and enthusiasm among the people and he displayed a political maturity to act fast on revamping the administrative machinery.
Taking over the reins on January 6 after Governor's rule and the months-long Amarnath agitations, the young Abdullah, paid surprise visits to government offices to revamp the system.
He made his priorities clear by ensuring justice to all regions, providing amenities, tackling unemployment and accelerating pace of development in the state.
"Abdullah has dropped sufficient hints that he will be a chief minister with a difference," an official spokesman said.
The young Abdullah, a first-timer in the assembly, had asked the administration to formulate agenda for first 100 days of coalition government to set the tone for governance for the next six years.
His call for co-operation was underlined by his statement of not believing in politics of vindictiveness and revenge. The visit to PDP chief Mufti Mohammed Sayeed s residence was one of noble gesture.
Omar's announcement for the setting up of a winter secretariat where ministers will be available on rotation basis has also been appreciated.
