Priyanka entering poll fray will be beneficial
Monday, January 12, 2009 23:20 [IST]

New Delhi: Amid reported demands that the party field her from Moradabad, Congress today said that Priyanka Gandhi entering the Lok Sabha poll fray would be "very beneficial" for it.

Replying to questions about demands from local leaders that Gandhi be fielded from Moradabad, Party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said that if there was such a proposal, the high command should think over it.

"It (her contesting) will be very beneficial. It will be very good and appropriate. She has an image," Natarajan said.

"She is very popular among youth and women. If she fights elections, it will be good for the country," the Congress spokesperson added.

Natarajan also wished Priyanka "all happiness and success" in her life on her birthday, which falls today (January 12).

Priyanka's husband Robert Vadra hails from Moradabad. Her mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi represents Rae Bareilly constituency in Lok Sabha while her brother Rahul Gandhi the adjoining Amethi seat.
