J-K govt to work for weaker sections
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 00:04 [IST]

Jammu: The new government will initiate measures for bringing in a "socio-economic transformation" of weaker sections in Jammu and Kashmir, state Forest and Environment Minister Mian Altaf Ahmed has said.

"Every effort will be made for socio-economic transformation of weaker sections. The funds earmarked under tribal sub-plan meant for welfare of tribal communities will be utilised judiciously," he said, addressing a meeting at Lamberi-Rajouri region.

Ahmed said the government was committed to provide basic amenities to the people and maintained that focused attention would be paid on the up-gradation of roads, drinking water and power supply in rural and far-flung areas.

He said a time-bound strategy would be evolved for the fast track development of the state.
