Tuesday, January 13, 2009 00:57 [IST]

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today said that the Tirumangalam by-election results have shattered AIADMK leader J Jayalalithaa's dreams of becoming Prime Minister with the help of the proposed Third Front, being floated by the Left parties.

"The results have shattered Jayalalithaa's dreams of becoming the Prime Minister," he said at a function organised to celebrate the victory of DMK candidate, Latha Athiyaman.

The Chief Minister said that his elder son M K Azhagiri, who had been in the forefront of the party campaign at Tirumangalam, would soon be rewarded with a party post.

"I will very soon announce the post after consultation with party General Secretary K Anbazhagan," Karunanidhi said.

He also thanked the Election Commission on behalf of the party for strictly enforcing the rules for peaceful conduct of the elections.
