Soren's defeat a foregone conclusion
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 02:28 [IST]

Patna: Claiming that the defeat of JMM President Shibu Soren, who resigned from chiefministership of Jharkhand during the day, in the Tamar by-poll was a foregone conclusion , Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today demanded immediate elections in that state.

"I am surprised that Soren having no mass support polled over 25,000 votes," Kumar told newsmen here on the sidelines of his weekly Janata Darbar .

"The strength of the Jharkhand Assembly should be more than 100 so as to avoid frequent change of guards. Or else the small parties will continue to call the shots," he added.

Jharkhand Assembly currently has 81 seats.
