Bihar: To make Bihar a crime-free state, police are performing special prayers at railway stations.
Government Railway Police (GRP) recently organised one such prayer at Ara Railway Station in Bhojpur district, about 60 km from here. To ensure smooth and peaceful travel, GRP officer-in-charge Vinod Kumar, the brain behind the move, performs prayers every full-moon night.
"We perform prayers every month for (maintaining) law and order on trains," he said. The last prayer was held at the GRP office here on Sunday and was attended by hundreds of police men, railway staff and passengers.
Similarly, a special yagna was held by police near here in 2007. Rita Kumari, officer-in-charge of the industrial area police station at Hajipur, the district headquarters of Vaishali, about 30 km from here, organised the yagna seeking to check the rising crime graph in the state.
She said the ritual was performed as per a Hindu priests advice. "We sought gods blessings to change the mindset of criminals. I strongly believe it (the prayers) will help create a crime-free society," Kumari said.
