Agartala: With the surrender of six more insurgents of outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) to Assam Rifles here after fleeing from their base camps in Bangladesh, the total number of insurgents who surrendered in last two days reached 30, police said Monday.
"Six insurgents of banned NLFT surrendered unconditionally in the headquarters of Assam Rifles yesterday and deposited their arms," police said.
The ultras deposited one SLR, two rifles and one revolver with live cartridges.
Earlier on Saturday, twenty-four ultras of two outlawed outfits - NLFT and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) surrendered before the security forces in West Tripura district.
Twenty-two ultras of NLFT surrendered to the commandant of 15th battalion of Assam Rifles at Hrankhawlpara while two ATTF ultras surrendered before the Sub divisional Police Officer of Khowai.
During interrogation, the ultras revealed that they mainly fled from their base camps in Bangladesh due to apprehension of raids by Bangladesh Army after Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina came to power, police said.
According to the inputs from the surrendered insurgents, more insurgents were waiting for an opportunity to escape from Bangladesh and surrender to the Indian authority, they said.
Two hardcore insurgents of ATTF, Michael Debbarma and Royal Debbarma, who were carrying cash rewards of Rs 2,50,000 each on their heads had surrendered to the security forces on January 4 last.
