Winged creatures get a helping hand in Jharkhand
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 09:45 [IST]

Ranchi: Migratory birds from Serbia and China flocking the lakes of Hazaribagh in Jharkhand will now have a safer winter sojourn with a local NGO lending a helping hand to the state wildlife division in protecting the winged creatures from hunters.

The NGO -- Neo Human Foundation -- is keeping a strict watch on the birds, according to forest officials.

"This organisation is not only protecting migratory birds but other wildlife species as well," Hazaribag District Forest Officer Anil Kumar Mishra said.

The species that flock the many lakes in Hazaribagh, Sahebganj and Rajmahal are Siberian Ducks, Brown Ducks, Swans, Dovechick, Lares, Dirhor, Herons, Teal, Stark and others.

They come from Siberia, China, Ladakh, Leh and other distant areas from where they take flight in October.
