Mayawati doesn't have remote chance to be PM
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 18:37 [IST]

Lucknow: Union Minister and Lok Janashakti Party leader Ramvilas Paswan today attacked Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for her prime ministerial ambitions saying she does not have "remote chance" to get the top job.

"I have seen many politicians who start talking of their prime ministerial ambitions once they realise that their votebase is shrinking", Paswan told reporters here on the sidelines of a meeting of National Dalit Front.

"Every politician dreams of becoming the Prime Minister. I had co-ordial relations with Mulayam Singh Yadav, when we were in the Third Front government. When a person like him could not be projected as a PM, how does Mayawati stand a chance for the top job? Tell me who is going to listen to her? In fact she does not have any remote chance to become the PM," Paswan said.

Asked about the fate of Bahujan Samaj Party in the coming five months, Paswan claimed "BSP is not going to get more than 15 seats in the coming Lok Sabha polls."

He said the anger of the people of the state against the erstwhile Samajwadi Party government brought a change of guard in UP but "this (BSP) government will either be finished off before the next elections or the voters will teach it a good lesson."

Paswan alleged "maximum number of crimes against Dalits are committed in UP. In fact, Mayawati is trying to send a message that it is the upper caste, which is committing a crime (the murder of engineer Manoj Gupta by BSP MLA Shekhar Tiwari). In fact, this government is neither for welare of Dalits nor upper castes. It works for its own welfare."
