Lucknow: A criminal allegedly involved in over half-a-dozen cases of heinous crime was killed in an encounter with the police in Fatehpur district, home department officials said today.

Shailesh Patel, who sustained serious injuries in encounter with the police at Lahngi village last night, was rushed to a nearby primary health centre, where he was declared brought dead, they added.

Police recovered a country-made fire-arm and few cartridges from his possession, the officials said, adding that efforts were on to nab his accomplices, who managed to flee from the spot.
