Over 3,000 WT police personnel penalised

Lucknow: More than 3,000 police personnel of Uttar Pradesh were penalised for travelling without ticket during a special fortnight-long drive carried by the state police, a senior police officer said today.

"On the directives of the Director General of Police a drive was carried out between December 21 to January 6 to nab personnel either travelling without ticket or grabbing reserved berth alloted to other passengers," Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Brij Lal said

The ADG informed that 3,430 personnel were caught during the drive and penalty of over Rs 8.87 lakh realised from them.

While 1,211 personnel were caught travelling without ticket, 1,683 were penalised for grabbing seats reserved on someone else s name, he said, adding the remaining 536 were penalised for consuming liquor on board.

Lal claimed that maximum 2,545 personnel were caught in Lucknow range and a penalty of over Rs 6 lakh realised from them.
