Two killed in chemical factory fire in Delhi
Tuesday, January 13, 2009 23:35 [IST]

New Delhi: Two labourers were burnt Tuesday when a blast took place in one of the drums kept in a chemical factory in central Delhi, officials said.

Minor fire broke out in the godown of the chemical factory in Khari Baoli area around 2.30 p.m. Fire officials said there was an explosion in one of the chemical drums kept there.

Three fire fighting tenders were pressed into service and firemen later found the bodies of Rohit and Madan Prakash - both in their ealy-30s.

“After the explosion, fire spread in three rooms and it took an hour to douse the inferno,” said a Delhi Fire Service official.

The police said they were ascertaining whether the owners of the godown were storing the chemicals legally, what was the chemical and what caused the explosion.
