Mystery of Anil Ambani murder plot deepens
Wednesday, April 29, 2009 08:53 [IST]

anil_ambani_01Mumbai: The technician who discovered the plot to sabotage industrialist Anil Ambani's chopper last Thursday was found dead Tuesday under mysterious circumstances.

Police said they have recovered a "distress note" from Bharat D. Borge, the technician who discovered Ambani's chopper sabotage. His body was found on the railway tracks.

"The note does not indicate whether he intended to commit suicide. It is more of a distress note written out of apprehensions that the entire blame of the Ambani chopper incident would ultimately fall on him," Railway Police Commissioner A. K. Sharma told IANS. "Investigations are on into the matter, so it will be premature to draw any conclusions at this stage," he added.

In his note addressed to the crime branch of police, Borge said he had not done anything in sabotaging the chopper. He said some company officials had come to his home and taken his phone number and promised to call him, but never did.

Borge's body has been sent for an autopsy to the R. N. Cooper Hospital in Juhu, a police official said.

According to the statement to the Andheri railway police by the motorman under whose suburban train Borge was run over, the victim was reportedly "standing" before the speeding train around 8 a.m. Borge's body was dragged almost 100 metres after he was knocked down by the train.

A resident of Bhayander suburb in Thane district, Borge was the original complainant about the discovery of pebbles and gravel in the oil tank of Ambani's private chopper last Thursday evening.

Air Works, the company responsible for maintaining the chopper, received a call Tuesday evening from the Mumbai railway police about the discovery of Borge's body near the Vile Parle railway station.

Borge was among the dozen-odd employees of Air Works who had been questioned by the police for the chopper sabotage.

Following the incident, the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) wrote a letter to Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, suspecting a ploy by business rivals to murder its chairman. Shortly thereafter, the matter was taken over for investigations by the crime branch.
