The Umra police on Monday arrested a father and son duo in connection with alleged fraud and kidnapping. According to the information, Umesh Mehta, a resident of Suryadarshan apartment, Citylight road, allegedly sold a piece of land in Rander to Sunil Jariwala, a land dealer, for Rs 3.50 crore. Mehta claimed he was the owner of the land, but Jariwala later learnt that it belonged to someone else.
Mehta handed over his flat to Jariwala and also assured to repay the remaining amount of money to him. Meanwhile, one of Jariwala's employees, identified as Hitendra More, was abducted by Mehta, his son Jayveer and two other people on May 30. They beat More and threatened to kill Jariwala if he disclosed the incident to anyone.
However, Jariwala approached Umra police and lodged a complaint against the father - son duo. The police raided a flat in Umang apartment, Parle Point, where Mehta had been living, and arrested the duo.
Police said that kidnapping cases have been registered against Mehta in Varachha and Adajan police stations in the past. Mehta is a member of the Congress party, the police said, adding they are investigating the case.
