The TDP has said the new entrant in politics and Telugu actor, Chiranjeevi, was "nothing" compared to its founder and legendary star NT Rama Rao when it comes to popularity and ability to woo voters.
"He (Chiranjeevi) is nothing. Nobody can be compared with NT Rama Rao," Telugu Desam Party chief N Chandrababu Naidu said when asked whether he sees Chiranjeevi as an NTR in the making.
Rao, who acted in over 300 films, formed the TDP in March 1982 and the party came into power within nine months of its formation in a dramatic way like his films.
Chiranjeevi, who starred in nearly 150 films, formed his Praja Rajyam Party in August last year and is all set to try his luck in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
"There are so many actors, nobody can be compared with NT Rama Rao. Already he (Chiranjeevi) is losing his place," Naidu said in an interview.
The actor had said last week that he would soon meet president Pratibha Patil to lodge a formal complaint against the "corruption" of both the Congress and TDP.
"We shall get an inquiry conducted, if elected to power, into the large-scale corruption indulged in by both (chief minister) YS Rajasekhara Reddy and N Chandrababu Naidu and take appropriate action," Chiranjeevi had said.
The TDP chief, on the other hand, dismissed the suggestion that Chiranjeevis PRP could be a threat to the regional party and form the next government in Andhra Pradesh.
"He is not a threat," Naidu said.
There have been reports that Chiranjeevi is likely to contest from two constituencies - Tirupati Assembly seat in Chittoor district and from another constituency (possibly Narasapuram) in West Godavari district.
NTR had contested from Tirupati and Nimmakuru in Krishna district after floating the TDP in his first election.
