Raipur: At least 12 people were killed and about 40 injured in a road accident late Wednesday in Chhattisgarh, the police said.

The tragic incident took place in Durg district's Pasuli village, when an overcrowded van returning from an engagement ceremony collided head-on with a truck.

Officials at the police headquarters here informed that 12 passengers of the van were crushed to death on the spot, while 40 others were taken to the district government hospital in Rajnandgaon. Some of the seriously injured were meanwhile shifted to Bhilai Hospital in Durg. Details are awaited.
